DUSHANBE, August 23, Asia-Plus — Installation of a new telecommunications system – Global Open Trunking Architecture (phonetically spelled) or GOTA – will begin in early September, Asia-Plus has learned from Suhrob Yoqubzoda, the head of the information department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC).

According to him, installation of this system is fixed in a tripartite agreement that was signed by a MoTC, China’s ZTE and Tajik cellular operator TK-Mobile in Dushanbe yesterday.

Yoqubzoda said that the GOTA system works in the CDMA standard and can be also used as wireless communication.

“This telecommunications is very suitable for mountainous Tajikistan,” said the MoTC official, “Cellular operators usually install their stations in populated areas, therefore, installation of one station comes for them to $50,000, while the GOTA system is capable to cover even remote mountain areas difficult of access, where there are no settlements.”

Under the signed agreement, the GOTA system is expected to cover all regions of the country, including Gorno Badakhshan, over the next three years.
