DUSHANBE, August 27, Asia-Plus — An August 25 meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with the US Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez in Dushanbe focused on bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States, presidential press service said.
“Relations with the United States is one of priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy,” President Emomali Rahmon said.
The two noted that the new bridge across the Panj River would promote expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan as well as ties between Central and South Asia.
Rahmon and Gutierrez also pointed the necessity of expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States in fighting terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, as well as intensifying support for the postwar reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy.
The meeting was also attended by US Assistant Secretary of State for Central and South Asian Affairs Richard Boucher.
