DUSHANBE, August 29, Asia-Plus — The price of Turkmen electricity deliveries for this winter is supposed to be major topic of negotiations of top managers of Tajik power holding with their Turkmen colleagues in the Turkmen capital city of Ashgabat.

We will recall that the head of Tajikistan’s Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) state-controlled power holding, Sharifkhon Samiyev, today left for the Turkmen capital to discuss with Turkmen energy authorities the recent deal with Turkmenistan to import 1 billion kWh of electricity in autumn-winter 2007-2008.

According to Barqi Tojik, the Barqi Tojik top manager intends to talk with Turkmen energy authorities over the price of Turkmen electricity deliveries and offer price that would be acceptable for Tajikistan.  Besides, the sides will also consider other aspects related to  delivery of 1 billion kWh of Turkmen electricity to Tajikistan in autumn-winter 2007-2008.

As it had been reported earlier, the Turkmen side demands 100-percent prepayment for electricity to be imported to Tajikistan.  .

We will recall that a Tajik government delegation led by Energy and Industries Minister Sherali Gulov on July 24 met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat to discuss the possibility of importing 1 billion electricity from Turkmenistan in the autumn-winter period to compensate for the anticipated shortfall in supplies from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, where reservoirs are so low that the output of hydroelectric power stations (HPSs) has been seriously affected.

To cover annual winter shortages of electricity Tajikistan needs on average from 3 billion to 3.5 billion kWh of electricity.
