KHOROG, August 30, Asia-Plus — A regional conference of the GBAO teachers that was held in Khorog on August 28 discussed the results of last academic year and the tasks for new academic year.
Davlatnazar Khudonazarov, the head of the GBAO education department, noted that with participation of teachers and parents’ committees as well as support of local authorities routine repairs had been made to all schools in the region.
“Construction of six and rehabilitation of 10 schools in the region are federally funded, and some schools are being constructed or rehabilitated under financial support of international organizations,” said Khudonazarov, “However, some 80 percent of schools in the region need major repairs and 80 schools are in a very poor state.”
The results of inspection of progress of secondary school students in studies are distressing, the education directorate head said. “Thus the rate of progress of the Khorog pupils in studies is 80 percent, while in the districts it averages 70 percent,” said Khudonazarov, “the lowest rate of progress in studies was reported in the Murgab district – 65 percent.”
Last year, Gorno Badakhshan had 602 teaching vacancies. More than 24 percent of teachers in the region have secondary or secondary special education. Of 321 schools functioning in the region, more than a half does not have special laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, foreign languages, etc. The existing laboratories are provided with necessary equipment only for not more than 30%-40%.
Many teachers leave schools, while young specialists do not want to work with schools.
During the conference it was noted that Teachers receives miserable pay for their work, therefore, the not surprising result is that many professional schools teachers left schools.
