DUSHANBE, September 14, Asia-Plus  — Kazakhstan’s finance and industrial group Atamaken-Holding intends to fund construction of a cement plant with a rated capacity of 1 million tons of cement per year in Khatlon’s Danghara district, Azat Kuatbayev, the deputy head of the Atamaken-Holding board, said in an interview with Asia-Plus yesterday.

According to him, one of provisions of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) and Atamaken-Holding provides for construction of the cement plant in Danghara.  The estimated budget for implementing this project is 120 million US dollars.

“We have submitted all necessary documents and are currently waiting for Tajik government’s resolution on this plant and our participation in this project,” Kuatbayev said.

On the issue of energy supplies, Kuatbayev noted that the site for the plant is located not far from the Sangtuda-1 power plant.  “Besides, to avoid dependence on natural gas we plan to use powdered coal for cement burning, and therefore, we propose to transfer to us a coal deposit.”

The Atamaken-Holding official noted that the plant will consist of two lines, and the second line is supposed to be introduced into operation in 3½ years after the construction starts.
