DUSHAHBE, October 12, Asia-Plus – Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov yesterday met in Dushanbe with India’s First Deputy Trade Minister Shri Pillai, who is co-chairman of the Tajik commission for trade and economic cooperation, Tajik national news agency Khovar reported.  

In the course of the talks the two expressed satisfaction with present state of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and India and pointed to the necessity of further expansion of economic ties.  

Tajik prime minister outlined sectors like construction, hydropower, mining, agriculture and tourism as areas of which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.  “If India participates in implementation of hydropower in Tajikistan, it will be possible to provide in future supply of Tajik electricity to India via territory of Pakistan,” Oqilov said.  

Mr. Shri Pillai, for his part, noted that his country has a good experience in the field of commerce and could fruitfully cooperate with Tajikistan in creating free trade and economic zones in our country.      

The two also exchanged views on ways to bring bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and India to proper level as well as opening aerial communications between Dushanbe and New Delhi.
