DUSHANBE, October 26, Asia-Plus  — To provide population with fresh vegetables in winter Tajikistan has extended areas for greenhouses, Agriculture and Environmental Protection Minister Abdurahmon Qodiri said.

According to him, a total area for greenhouses has tripled this year, reaching 35 hectares.  “620 tons of tomatoes, 370 tons of cucumbers and  140 tons of other vegetables will be grown in these greenhouses,” the minister said.  

Qodiri also noted that 8 poultry factories have been rehabilitated this year.  The poultry factories now operate in Fayzobod, Sarband, Jabborrasulov, Konibodom, Mastchoh, Vakhsh, Mouminobod and Bokhtar.  By the end of this year, two other poultry factories will have been introduced into operation in Jomi and Vahdat.  

Over the first three quarters of this year, Tajikistan has produced 768,000 tons of grain, 558,000 tons of vegetables, 360,000 of potatoes, 189,000 tons of watermelons, melons and gourds, 66,000 tons of grapes, 74,300 tons of meat, 391,500 tons of milk, 82 million pieces of eggs, 4,000 tons of wool and 1,600 tons of honey for a total amount of 3.1 billion somonis.  

Qodiri noted that with support of the European Union the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection had elaborated a concept of agrarian policy of Tajikistan.  The concept has been submitted for consideration to the government, which intends to pass resolution on it before the end of this year.
