DUSHANBE, December 3, Asia-Plus  — Tajik has failed to fulfill the national cotton target for 2007, having reached only 76.3 percent to this day.  

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), the southern Khatlon province has yielded 259,381 tons of cotton by December 3, which is 78.5 percent of the target.  The province has pledged to produce 330,500 tons of raw cotton this year.

The source at a MoAEP said that Khatlon plans to continue the cotton-harvesting campaign.    

Districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have yielded 35,346 tons of raw cotton by to this day, which is 73.3 percent of the target.  Their target is 48,200 tons of cotton. 

Cotton growers of the northern Sughd province have yielded 124,661 tons of cotton by December 3, which is 72.7 percent of their target determined at 171,300 tons of cotton. 

The republic has yielded 419,388 tons of cotton by December 3, which comprises 76.3 percent of this year’s target.  The national target for this year has been determined at 550,000 tons of cotton.
