DUSHANBE, December 5, Asia-Plus  — The second phase of a special anti-drugs operation, dubbed Channel 2007, which was carried out in the territories of member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), has ended.    

The second phase was launched on November 26 and ended on December 3, and Tajikistan stood in the first place among CSTO states in terms of the amount of contraband drugs seized during the operation, the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) said.

Over the report period, Tajik law enforcement agencies ad border guards have seized more than 295 kilograms of drugs, including more than 116 kilograms of heroin, some 159 kilograms of raw opium and more than 19 kilograms of cannabis.   

Besides, they have seized 52 unit of firearms and 1,856 kilograms of sulfuric acid, which is precursor for producing narcotics.   

18 persons, including seven Afghan nations, have been detained over the mentioned period for drug trafficking.   

According to figures provided by international coordination staff for preparing and carrying out the operation, the second phase of the operation led to the seizure of 246 kilograms of heroin and 166 kilograms of raw opium.  Tajikistan accounted for some 50 percent of heroin and 95 percent of raw opium that were intercepted during the second phase of the operation.
