DUSHANBE, December 6, Asia-Plus  — A joint board meeting of Tajikistan’s Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption and Russia’s Chamber of Accounts opened in Dushanbe today morning.

The meeting, which is being held behind doors, is presumably discussing the results of parallel inspections of a progress of implementation of a government-to-government agreement on procedure and terms of shared participation of Russia in construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power station (HPS).

We will recall that closed joint stock-company (CJSC) InterRAO YeES, subsidiary of Russia’s Unified Energy Systems (RAO YeES), assumes 75 percent ownership in the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectricity project and Tajikistan owns 25 percent of shares.

Sherkhon Salimov, Director Chairman Tajikistan’s Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, and Sergey Stepashin, chairman of Russia’s Chamber of Accounts, are co-chairing the joint board meeting.

The meeting is expected to result in signing of an agreement on cooperation and interaction between the controlling agencies of the two countries.

Stepashin is also supposed to hold talks with President Emomali Rahmon today to discuss cooperation issues.

As it had been reported earlier, Sergey Stepashin yesterday visited the site of the Sangtuda-1 station in Khatlon’s Danghara district.

Stepashin arrived in Tajikistan Tuesday evening for a three-day visit to inspect targeted use of funds provided from Russian federal budget to RAO YeES for construction of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant in Tajikistan.
