DUSHANBE, December 30, Asia-Plus  — A striking New Year’s show for more than 2,000 children from the Dushanbe schools, boarding-schools and orphanages, staged by the Dushanbe mayor’s office,  was held at the Dushanbe Circus today.

Both professional circus artistes and children’s creative groups took part in the New Year’s show.  Known Tajik variety singers such as Dilorom Qurbonova, Parvina Shukrulloyeva and Bakhtiyor Ibrohimov participated in the event. 

Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev and Culture Minister Mirzoshorukh Asrori came to congratulate the children and New Year’s presents were given to the children on behalf of the president. 

After that, a theatrical show, based on a work by known Tajik-Persian poet and satirist Ubayd Zakani entitled “Mush va Gurba (Mouse and Cat), was held at the circus

The mayor noted that 350 children that participated in the New Year’s show would be given 350 somonis in prize each.   

 In the meantime, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said, “Theatrical and circus shows will also be organized fro children during winter holidays, from January 3 to January 10.”  He noted that all shows would be free of charge.  Funds for organizing the New Year’s activities for children have been provided form the city budget, according to him.
