DUSHANBE, January 8, Asia-Plus  — Tojik Telecom, Tajikistan’s national fixed-line telecommunications, has reduced rate for outgoing calls from 16.5 dirams to 4 dirams per minute.

On Monday January 7, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) issued a resolution obligating to reduce rate for outgoing calls from the fixed-line phone networks from 16.5 dirams to 4 dirams per minute.

The source at a MoEDT said that the document had been adopted following recommendations of a working group set up by the government.

The MoEDT resolution also cancelled the fixed rate for incoming international calls.  Earlier, rate for incoming international call was 8 dirams per minute.  Henceforth, rates for international calls will be set in accordance with contracts between operators.

Calling Party Pays (CPP) is the arrangement in which the mobile subscriber does not pay for incoming calls.  Instead, the calling party pays for those calls.

As it had been reported earlier, Tojik Telecom introduced the CPP (Calling Party Pays) model in the country last month.  Rate of outgoing calls from fixed-line network of Tojik Telecom changed with effect from December 1 2007 and it was set at 16.5 dirams per minute instead of the previous 2 dirams.  The call rate within the Tojik Telecom network remains the same – 2 dirams per minute.
