DUSHANBE, January 10, Asia-Plus  — The Dushanbe heat and power plant now generates some 5,000 gigacalorie of heat and up to 3 million kWh of electrical power per day, Rahmatullo Qalandarov, an engineer-in-chief with the heat station, said.

According to him, this amount is enough to meet 45 percent of the city’s requirements in electricity and 80 percent of its requirements in heat.

Heating season started on October 10 2007 and since that time, the station has generated 208 million kWh of electricity and some 284,000 gigacalorie of heat.

Qalandarov noted that the enterprise was forced to work on fuel oil because it now receives only 10,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day from Tojikgaz (Tajik state natural-gas distributor) instead of the planned 54,000 cubic meters.  Since October 10, the Dushanbe heat and power plant has received 980,000 cubic meters of gas.
