DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus  — Sergey Naryshkin, Deputy Russian Prime Minister also Special Representative of the Russian President for Development of Cooperation with CIS States, is arriving in Dushanbe today along with Anatoly Chubais, head of Russia’s Unified Energy Systems (RAO YeES).

According to the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe, the vice-premier and the head of Russia’s state-controlled energy entity YeES will attend a ceremony of launch of the first of four units of the Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant, scheduled for January 20.

During their stay in Tajikistan, the Russian officials are expected to hold talks with high-ranking Tajik state officials to discuss prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan.  

Construction of the Sangtuda-1 station is funded by Russia’s Unified Energy Systems, and the Russian entity has spent approximately $500 million to build the plant.  It retains a 75 percent share in the power plant, which will generate a projected 2.7 billion kWh of electricity per annum.  The power station will have an estimated capacity of 670 MW.
