DUSHANBE, January 29, Asia-Plus  — An exhibition entitled “Pre-Islamic Heritage in Tajik Culture” will take place at the National Kamoliddin Behzod Museum in Dushanbe on January 30.

According to Bactria Cultural Center, the exhibition is a result of a joint project of Kamoliddin Behzod Museum and NGO “Restorers without Borders – Republic of Tajikistan”, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Republic (MoC).

Within this project, a unique wooden mihrab, known as Iskodar Mihrab, which is one of the finest mihrabs in the world, was restored and preserved.

Besides restoration, the project involved reorganization of the museum exposition, adjustment of new showcases and the creation of new museum space, based on five museum rooms, which chronologically display exhibits, ranging from III century BC, to X-XII centuries AD.

In all five rooms museum visitors will see the way pre-Islamic symbols, ideology, and views were projected in visual and decorative arts, as well as in architecture following the spread of Islam religion on the territory of modern Tajikistan. Also they can observe the continuous expressions of Zoroastrian religious views in stylization and architectonics of their sacred elements, which considerably impacted the development of visual and decorative arts and architecture of Tajikistan till these days.
