DUSHANBE, February 19, Asia-Plus  — Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding will probably increase electricity supplies to Dushanbe starting from today evening.

Electricity supplies practically to all areas of Dushanbe resumed today afternoon.  Barqi Tojik officials refused from commenting on this matter.  They just said that electricity rationing introduced in Dushanbe would probably be partially lifted in the near future.

The source at Barqi Tojik added that it could not be ruled out that in Dushanbe, electricity supplies would be cut off only at night.

“We are currently negotiating with our neighbors the volume of electricity they currently export to our country,” said the source, “If the volume of electricity they export to Tajikistan remain the same – 12 million KWh per day, electricity supplies to residents of the capital city will increase.”

He added that amount of electricity supplies imported from neighboring countries during the winter months is dependent on weather conditions.  “The neighboring countries will not be able to supply electricity to make up the deficit of power in Tajikistan if demand for power in them increases because of cold weather,” the source said.

In the meantime, Deputy Energy and Industries Minister, Poulod Muhiddinov, noted that comprehensive information on electricity supplies to Dushanbe would be given on Tajik national TV today evening.
