DUSHANBE, February 19, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) has sent a consignment of chlorine pills and information materials to Sughd’s Ghonchi district following an outbreak of acute intestinal diseases there, Madina Sayfidinova, the RCS information officer, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to her, 48,000 chlorine pills and 3,000 copies of newsletters on how to prevent spread of acute intestinal disease have been provided for Ovchi and Kalininobod jamoats of the district.  

Mahbouba Ahrorova, the chairperson of the RCS medical and social department, said that they had received report about outbreak of typhoid in Ghonchi and creation of a special commission at the central district hospital to find out the cause of the outbreak and study the epidemiological situation in the district.  

In this connection, RCS jointly with the Tajik Delegation of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) sent the chlorine pills for disinfection of water and newsletters for raising awareness level among the population, the information officer said.

According to her, 17 cases of typhoid have been detected in Ghonchi.
