QURGHON TEPPA, February 21, Asia-Plus  — A meeting to discuss draft regional education development support program for 2008-2015 was held in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of the Khatlon province, on February 19.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Nourali Azirov, the deputy head of the Khatlon education directorate, said that the draft program was aimed at seeking solution to the problems facing the education sector in Khatlon, including renovation and construction of schools and training of teaching personnel.    

“The draft program will be submitted to the government in the near future,” the Khatlon education official said.

According to him, 1,301 schools now function in the province.  Of them, 91 are currently in a poor state, 69 schools are placed in private houses and 32 others in trailers. 

The Khatlon province now has more than 1,500 teaching vacancies, Azizov said.
