DUSHANBE, April 9, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday April 8, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy, Mrs. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, visited a Training Centre for Tajik Border Forces which was constructed and refurbished under the EU Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA). 

Stressing that the Central Asian region counters many challenges, the EC Commissioner noted that the European Union (EU) is ready to help the countries of the region counter those challenges.     

She noted that assistance to effective border management in the country, especially along Tajik-Afghan border will remain a priority and further cooperation in this area is envisaged.

According to her, the European Union will open drug profiling points at airports and railway stations.   

Mrs. Ferrero-Waldner noted that bilateral approach, that is improvement of border security and support for trade, will remain the main principle of work.
