German official offers to hold international conference in Dushanbe to discuss drug trafficking issues

DUSHANBE, April 15, Asia-Plus  — Visiting Minister of State at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office Gernot Erler yesterday held talks with the Drug Control Agency (DCA) director Rustam Nazarov, according to the DCA press service. 

In the course of the talks, the Tajik drug control kingpin briefed German official on the present drug situation in Tajikistan and measures taken by the government to combat drug trafficking.   

Mr. Erler highly appraised efforts taken by the Tajik counternarcotics agency to combat drug trafficking and noted that the European Union intends to expand cooperation with Central Asia’s states, including Tajikistan, in this direction, particular strengthening of the border control, the DCA press service said.   

The German official in particular, offered to hold an international conference in Dushanbe in October to discuss the drug trafficking problems.
