KHOROG, April 23, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, the law enforcement agencies in Gorno Badakhshan have seized 57.2 kilograms of drugs, the GBAO counternarcotics directorate chief Marodusein Aliyorov announced at a press conference in Khorog on April 23.

According to him, the totaled included 2.9 kilograms of heroin and 54.2 kilograms of cannabis, which is little more than in the same period of last year.

Over the report period, officers from the GBAO counter narcotics directorate have inspected nine enterprises and organizations in the region that use psychotropic preparations in their activity.  “Only at one of them, the fact of not fulfilling requirements of storing psychotropic substances has been revealed,” Aliyorov said.

Inspection carried out by the drug control officers jointly with representatives of the regional health directorate in March revealed that the number of drug addicts had increased in the region by 13 persons, he said.

According to the GBAO Regional AIDS Center, 69 HIV sufferers have to date been officially registered in the region.  The majority of them are injecting drug users.
