KHUJAND, April 24, Asia-Plus  — Ahmad Usmonov, acting chief of the criminal investigation squad within the Isfara police department, has been arrested on suspicion of having been involved in bribery.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Millopar Bandishoyev, the head of the Sughd anticorruption directorate, said that Usmonov was caught red-handed yesterday when he was taking $600 in bribe from local woman P.K. for dropping criminal case instituted against her.  She is charged with stealing 30,000 Russian rubles (RR) on April 18.  

Bandishoyev added that the preliminary investigation had established that Usmonov also received RR 60,000 from P.K. on April 19. 

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ahmad Usmonov an investigation is under way.
