DUSHANBE, April 28, Asia-Plus  — International Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) has named a new mineral, discovered in the Darai Piyoz gorge in Rasht Valley, eastern Tajikistan, after Abdulhaq Fayziyev, Director of the Institute of Geology at Tajikistan’s Academy of Sciences – fyziyevit, Asia-Plus has learned at the Main Geology Directorate.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Main Geology Directorate head Azim Ibrohim said the mineral was discovered in Darai Piyoz last year.

According to him, it is already the third mineral named after Tajik scientists.  “Earlier, one mineral had been named after Tajik scientist Rauf Barotov – “barotovit” and another one – dustmatovit – had been named after Tajik geologist Vyacheslav Dustamov,” Mr. Ibrohim said, adding that 35 minerals had been discovered in Darai Piyoz over the past several year; 25 of them are the new ones.

The Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) was formed in July 2006 by a merger between the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names (CNMMN) and the Commission on Classification of Minerals, at the request of both commissions.
