DUSHANBE, April 28, Asia-Plus  — Senior officials of education ministries of Tajikistan and Russian met in Dushanbe on April 25 to discuss cooperation issues.

The source at the Tajik Ministry of Education (MoE) said that the meeting participants, in particular discussed opening of branches of Moscow State University (MGU), St. Petersburg State Mining Institute (SPGGI) and Moscow Energy Institute (MEI) in Tajikistan.

Tajik and Russian education officials reached an agreement to set up an inter-departmental commission for more detailed discussion of that issue, working out financial-economic mechanisms and laying legal foundation of the establishment of Russian universities’ branches in the country, the source said.

The sides considered it expedient to define the list of the most topical issues for exchanging views and working plan of joint actions before June 1, 2008.

The meeting also discussed issues related to establishment of the MGU’s preliminary courses, the source said.
