DUSHANBE, May 2, Asia-Plus — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) six-month monitoring program will be implemented in Tajikistan this year, and audit of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) will be conducted as part of this program, Mr. Carlos Pinerua, the head do the IMF mission to Tajikistan, remarked at a press conference in Dushanbe on April 30.
According to him, the main two objectives of the program include removing certain shortcomings in a system of management of Tajik central bank, with raising transparency of large state-run enterprises, and restoring and maintaining macroeconomic stability in the country’s economy.
The IMF mission head expressed hope that the audit will allow throwing light on operations that led to misreporting.
He noted that the main aim of the program is to restore confidence in policy of reforms in Tajikistan as well as store positive experience in implementation of those reforms. If everything goes as planned, the Fund will consider another program next year, Mr. Pinerua said.
