DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus  – A competition for participation in a training seminar on civic journalism and new media-instruments, organized by Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation – Tajikistan (OSI/AF-T), is nearing completion.

Ms. Rukhshona Olimova, PR-manager, OSI/AF-T, said that the training is dedicated to consider issues related to use of new media-instruments (blogging, sitebuilding and civic journalism).

According to her, the main objective of the seminar is to promote popularization of the use of new media-instruments among journalists, ICT specialists, NGOs employees, public relations and all interested persons, including specialists and students from profile faculties.

The deadline for lodgement of applications is May 26.

The civic journalism movement (also known as public journalism) is an attempt to abandon the notion that journalists and their audiences are spectators in political and social processes.  In its place, the civic journalism movement seeks to treat readers and community members as participants.
