DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus  — The 24th session of the council of the CIS heads of security and special services ended in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan yesterday, Kyrgyzstan’s news agency Kabar reported.  

According to Kabar, Kyrgyzstan’s security service chief Marat Sutalinov noted that the session was another step “towards strengthening of the system ensuring an opportune exposure and reduction of growth in threats of terrorist character as well as taking adequate measures to maintain stability  in our countries.”  He, in particular, noted that under conditions when terrorism is posing multidimensional threat to international stability, a role of international antiterrorism interaction and cooperation is increasing.

Participants of the meeting in Bishkek included delegations from 11 CIS member nations – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.  The Tajik delegation participating in the session was led by Khairddin Abdurahimov, the head of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB). 

The meeting participants shared experiences in preparing and carrying out antiterrorism operations, as well as discussed issues related to cooperation in countering terrorism, transnational organized crime and legalization criminal incomes, etc.    

 It was the first meeting within the framework of the plan of main actions for implementation of the further CIS development concept, which adopted at the CIS summit in Dushanbe last year.  The concept reflects intention of all member nations to not only preserve the Commonwealth but also actively develop and strengthen it.  


Mainstream of activity of the council of the CIS heads of security and special services, which was established in 1997, is



counteraction to international terrorism.  Besides the council members actively participate in the work of annual international meeting of heads of special services, security services and law-enforcement agencies on problems of struggle against terrorism.  From the council’s 19th session representatives of security services of Germany, Spain, Italy and France take part in its work as observers.
