KHUJAND, May 26, Asia-Plus — Officially registered HIV sufferers living in the northern Sughd province, who are offered supporting therapy, refuse physicians’ services because of distrust in medicine, Ibrohim Madaliyev, the deputy director of the Sughd AIDS Center, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, the so-called anti-retroviral therapy was launched in the province three years ago due to funds provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund).
46 persons have been voluntarily selected for undergoing the anti-retroviral therapy.
“During the report period, 14 persons have died for different reasons, including narcotics overdose and tuberculosis,” said Madaliyev, “At present, 22 HIV sufferers are undergoing the anti-retroviral therapy, and their health condition has become stable.
We have a certain supply of medicine preparations, but the problem is that many patients do not believe that medicial preparations can improve stabilize their health condition.”
