DUSHANBE, May 30, Asia-Plus  — By carrying out such a special operation in Kulob, authorities want to intimidate the local population, Sulton Quvvatov, the leader of unregistered opposition party Taraqqiyot (Development), remake data press conference in Dushanbe on May 29.

According to him, the government cannot cope with its tasks, “and thereby, it tries to prevent civic unrest, especially after the past difficult winter.”

“I do not know whether Suhrob Langriyev is guilty or not, but if he has been wanted by police since 2002, why did not they arrest him earlier as they arrested Yoqub Salimov and Mahmadruzi Iskandarov, and they did not had to use special units and military materiel?” Quvvatov said.

According to him, the special operation carried out in Kulob is evidence of low professionalism of Tajik law enforcement agencies.

Speaking to reporters, Quvvatov reminded a February incident in Gharm, when commander of special police unit, Colonel Oleg Zakharchenko, was killed and confrontation between Mamadboqir Mamadboqirov and law enforcement agencies in Gorno Badakhshan.  “In my opinion, in those two incidents, the authorities just did not have enough military materiel and high professional special services in those areas; otherwise, those incidents would had also been solved by force as it was in Kulob,” the Taraqqiyot leader said.
