DUSHANBE, June 9, Asia-Plus – A June 6 meeting of the council of the CIS customs service chiefs in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia resulted in signing of 10 documents, including an agreement on the training of CIS customs officers at the Russian Customs Academy.
The heads and representatives of the customs services of Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Moldova, and Armenia attended the meeting.
The CIS customs service chiefs discussed the need for a review of legislation in their countries and simplifying customs control procedures.
Speaking at the meeting, Russia’s Federal Customs Service Director Andrei Belyaninov said that a large amount of bad quality products are brought into Russia,
Customs officers on all of Russian borders report shipments of products that do not meet international standards, including low-grade meat from China despite a ban he said. “However it is brought into the country through other countries and under a different brand,” he added.
Belyaninov believes that this problem can be solved only if the international legal framework and CIS customs standards are unified and harmonised.
