DUSHANBE, June 30, 2008, Asia-Plus — Officers from the GBAO counternarcotics directorate have stopped an attempt by Afghan drug peddler to smuggle a large amount of drugs into the Ishkashim district.
According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service, an operation carried out by the GBAO drug control officers on June 28 led to the arrest of Afghan national Sheron valadi Niyozmamad near the village of Avj in GBAO’s Ishkashim district. Two packages containing some 50 kilograms of raw opium and hashish were confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the drug peddler under provisions of three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 200 (drug trafficking), Article 289 (contraband) and Article 335 (illegal border crossing).
