DUSHANBE, July 2, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Germany intends to provide further 5 million euros in grants to the National Social investment Fund (NSIFT) for the program to support development of basic education in the southern Khatlon province, according to the NSIFT office in Dushanbe.

The funds are provided for the second phase of the program within the framework of financial cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany, the source at the NSIFT said.

According to him, a delegation of Germany Development, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), was in Tajikistan from June 16 to July 1 to inspect a progress of implementation of the program aimed at supporting enhancement of basic education and rehabilitation of communal infrastructure in 14 districts of the Khatlon province.

During their stay in Tajikistan the KfW delegation members also held talks with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), GTZ, UNDP, USAID UNICEF and DFID country offices here as well as with local authorities and NSIFT specialists.

“The German side confirmed its consent to provide grant funds for the second phase of the program,” the source said, noting that KfW delegation’s visit to Tajikistan ended with signing of two protocols on July 1.
