DUSHANBE, July 2, 2008, Asia-Plus — Issues related to enhancement of Tajikistan’s agrarian sector were a major topic of a meeting of the Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov with Mr.  Yoshiro Nakayama, Charge D’Affaires, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, in Dushanbe on July 1, press service of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).  

In the course of the talks, Qosimov expressed gratitude to Japan’s Government for close cooperation with Tajikistan in enhancing its agrarian sector and underlined a significant importance of technical assistance provided by Japan’s Government to the country’s agrarian sector and training of specialists for Tajik agrarian sector through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).   

 For his part, Mr. Nakayama expressed satisfaction with the present level of cooperation and noted that his country was ready to expand bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan. 

Japanese diplomat reminded that during two-year cooperation with Tajik MoA, a project for development of agriculture in mountain areas of Tajikistan had been developed.  The projects is aimed at promoting improvement of quality of farm produce with further export of it to other countries.  

The core of the program is to establish agricultural centers for training farmers.  Such center currently operate in Muminobod, Jilikul, Tojikobod and Tavildara districts.  

He further added that similar center will be established in Sughd’s Ayni and Isfara districts in the near future as well.
