DUSHANBE, July 17, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tohir Imanov, an accountant with the firefighting services in Khatlon’s Rumi district, is charged with embezzlement of state funds.

            Sharifbek Sharifov, a spokesman for the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, told Asia-Plus today that inspection by officers from the Khatlon anticorruption directorate of activities of the firefighting service in the Rumi district had revealed instances of misappropriation of state funds and service forgery.  

According to him, Tohir Imanov, serving as an accountant with the mentioned firefighting service, misappropriated some 45,500 somonis belonging to the firefighting service.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Imanov on the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 245 (embezzlement or misappropriation) and Article 323 (service forgery), the spokesman said.
