DUSHANBE, July 30, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers at the Dushanbe airport yesterday morning intercepted a large amount of narcotics, according to Tajikistan’s Customs Service.

An inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-St. Petersburg flight found 13,846 kilograms of narcotics hidden in a suitcase belonging to one of passengers.  The name of the alleged drug trafficker is not disclosed in the interest of investigation, the source at the customs service said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the drug trafficker and an investigation is under way.
