DUSHANBE, August 2, 2008, Asia-Plus — Governors of Tajikistan’s Sughd province and Russia’s Altay region have signed a protocol of intentions.
As it had been reported earlier, Sughd governor Qohir Rasoulzoda heading a regional delegation left for Russia’s Altay region on July 30 for a four-day working visit to discuss cooperation issues.
The delegation members include representatives of the Sughd heath and agriculture directorates, employment and antimonopoly agencies, consumers’ cooperation union, chamber of commerce and industry, as well as capital construction and foreign economic activity departments.
Rasoulzoda and Altay governor Aleksandr Karlin inked the document on July 31.
In the course of the talks, the sides reached an agreement on establishment of education cooperation between the two regions. Under this agreement, Tajik students may study at higher educational institutions in Altay.
Rasoulzoda and Karlin also discussed the possibility of implementation of a number of joint projects and launch of joint ventures and joint leasing company
According to the information analysis center at the Sughd regional government, the visit is held within the framework of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian cooperation that was signed between local authorities of the Sughd and Altay regions in September 2007.
The Sughd delegation is retuning home today evening.
