KHUJAND, August 9, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Major repairs to the Khujand-based boarding school for children with intellectual disabilities, Sughd province are nearing completion.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Sayfullo Rahmatov, a chief specialist with the Sughd education directorate, said that some one million somonis had been allocated for major repairs to that educational facility, and the limited liability company Sokhtmon (Construction) had been granted a contract for repairing the boarding school. 

According to him, the major repairs to this boarding school a re expected to be finished by August 20. 

“In the meantime, the boarding school will start accepting first graders on August 15,” said the chief specialist.  “This year, two first graders will be accepted.  According to rules of such educational facilities, each class should have not more than 10 pupils.”  Pupils are accepted by doctor”s referral, Rahmatov said. 

The Khujand boarding school for children with intellectual disabilities now has 230 pupils; 120 of them, primarily children from the nearby districts, live at the school, where they are constantly supervised by the boarding school staff.  The boarding school has a staff of 75, including teachers and instructors.
