KHUJAND, August 9, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The ministries of interior (MoI) of Russia and Tajikistan need more interaction in the on-line regime, Russian Minister of Interiors Rashid Nurgaliyev remarked at press conference in Qairoqqum, Sughd province on August 8, following the tenth joint board meeting of the ministries of the two countries.

The meeting ended with signing of two documents: a resolution on problems of combating organized transnational crime and organizing a complex of measures to counter terrorism, trafficking in persons and illicit drug trafficking in the territories of Tajikistan and the Russian Federation; and  a document on a progress of implementation of the resolution of the joint board meeting of the Tajik and Russian MoIs of 2005 on interaction between the ministries in seeking and detaining persons wanted by police.

The meeting, co-chaired by Minister of Interiors Mahmadnazar Solehov and his Russian counterpart Rashid Nurgaliyev, considered issues related to interaction between the ministries in investigating and solving crimes committed by transnational organized criminal groupings, plans of joint actions of the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in combating drug trafficking, as well as a plan of actions of the united board for 2009, according to the Tajik MoI .

The sides discussed issues related to the labor migration problems such as providing rights and freedoms of Tajik labor migrants working in Russia.

During the meeting, it was noted that five operations, dubbed “Search”, carried out in Russia in 2006-2008 led to the arrest 185 persons wanted by police of member nations of the CIS; seven of them were wanted by Tajik police.

The meeting participants also noted that one of priorities of bilateral cooperation between the interior ministries of Tajikistan and Russia is training of police personnel for Tajikistan in the Russian Federation.

Noting the necessity of further improvement of joint activities, the meeting participants decided to organize special operations to discover and shut down channels and routes, members of international terrorist and extremist organizations use for penetration and smuggling weapons and financial means for committing terrorist acts, before November 1, 2008.  They also agreed to conduct joint tactical-special drills for special antiterrorist units as well as training for Tajik police officers at educational facilities of the Russian MoI in 2008-2009.
