DUSHANBE, August 13, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Another fire has been reported at the Korvon market in the southern part of Dushanbe.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), a fire that broke out at Dushanbe’s largest merchandise market today early in the morning, at around 1:00 a.m., destroyed an area of 2,100 square meters.  Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

“A special operational group is currently working in the fire site and the cause of the fire is under investigation,” the source at a MoI said, refraining from giving further details of the incident.

In the meantime, entrepreneurs working with the market said that the fire had destroyed some 60 containers and two warehouses.

It is to be noted that is not the firs fire at the Korvon market.  A number of large fires have been reported at the market since December 2002 when it was established.
