KHUJAND, August 20, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Participants at a summer regional ecology camp, formally titled “Our Green Home,” have monitored the environmental protection situation in the vacation house Qairoqqum and the camping site Bukhta Mirnaya located on the bank of the Qairoqqum reservoir.

“Monitoring by ecology activists has revealed that administrations of the vacation house and the camping site do not pay proper attention to combating piles of trash left by holidaymakers,” Ms. Lyubov Prudtzkikh of the Khujand public association Youth Group for Environmental Protection said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, they monitored the situation in the vacation house and the camping site in July under support of the Sughd agency for environmental protection.  “Piles of trash having been left by holidaymakers are a serious problems; there are many unauthorized dumps and there are no refuses,” said Prudtzkikh, “The regional agency for environmental protection ruled that the administrations should removed existing shortcomings”

However, the repeated monitoring has shown that the administrations failed to fulfill the ruling properly, according to her.

According to the Qairoqqum mayor’s office, every year, more than 3,500 people have rest at camps by the Qairoqqum reservoir.
