Tajik movie “Wish to Live” to take part at International Eurasia Film Festival

DUSHANBE, August 27, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Movie “Wish to Live” by filmmaker Yunus Yusupov will represent Tajikistan at the 5th Eurasia International Film Festival that will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from September 7-13, the Dushanbe Dom Kino director Safar Haqdodov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, the movie is about a meeting of two persons in the mountains.  This meeting will become fateful for both of them and make them go over their lives again.  

“Window into Central Asia,” that is the motto of the 5th Eurasia Internal Film Festival.

More than 70 movies are expected to be screened during the 6-day festival.  The competition program will include full-length feature films produced in 2007/2008 in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Guests at this year’s festival will include the producer Michael Fitzgerald (Under the Volcano and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada), writer Guillermo Arriaga (Babel and 21 Grams) and the actor Tommy Lee Jones (currently filming the US/Kazakh co-production In the Electric Mist).

The Argentinean writer/producer Lucrecia Martel, the Romanian director Nae Caranfil, China’s Johnny To and Jia Zhangke, the German Fatih Akin and Thierry Fremaux of the Cannes Film Festival are all expected to participate.

The Spanish actor Javier Bardem, Sean Penn and John Malkovich are also expected to attend. A number of Russia’s leading cinema figures will also take part, as well as Timur Bekmambetov, Alexander Baranov and Darezhan Omirbayev of Kazakhstan.
