DUSHANBE, September 2, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The National Social Investment Fund of Tajikistan (NSIFT) has supported construction of a new school in the village of Kuikanak, Khatlon’s Vakhsh district.

According to NSIFT, the population of the village is now more than 7,800, with more than 3,000 of them being children under the age of 18.

“A community survey conducted in the village has revealed that one the main problems facing Kuikanak is shortage of classes,” the source at the NSIFT said, adding that 549 pupils studied at local school # 50, designed to accommodate only 120 pupils.

“Moreover, the old school was in a very poor state, and therefore, taking into consideration interests of the village community and local authorities of the Vakhsh district, the NSIFT has decided to construct a new school building that would have ten classes.”

According to him, the new school, designed to accommodate 250 pupils, is provided with necessary school furniture and computers.
