DUSHANBE, September 8, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On Sunday September 7, officers from the migration service within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) met with visiting representatives of the Union of Tajiks in Russia as well as Tajik diasporas in different Russian regions to discuss problems facing Tajik labor migrants working in the Russian Federation.

Issues related to registration of labor migrants, employment and social protection of their rights were the focus of the meeting.

During the meeting, the migration service senior representatives suggested that regional ethnic-cultural centers, functioning in Russia, should exchange information on labor migration issues, conduct regular consultations on the arising problems, and provide assistance to labor migration with legalization of them in the territory of Russia.

The migration service also proposed to establish a public fund from voluntary fees paid by labor migrants, going outside the country in search of better employment opportunities, for providing assistance to families of labor migrants that had died outside the country.
