KULOB, September 8, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A working group of the Kulob mayor’s office has given the go-ahead to opening of nine renovated first-aid posts in the Kulob district, Asia-Plus has learned from Alisher Kobirov, deputy head of the Kulob health directorate.

According to him, the renovated first-aid posts have been provided with medical equipment within the framework of the health sector reform project, which is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The project is aimed to boost management skills in the health sector and system efficiency, promote policy reforms, and increase access to quality services, well-trained medical staff, drugs, and equipment.

Health community councils, consisting of active part of settlements, have been set up in the district as part of the project, Kobirov said.

Before the end of this year, the first-aid posts will be opened in other districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region as well.

“With support of the World Bank construction of the first-aid post is nearing completion in the Shuroobod district,” said the Kulob health official.  “Two first-aid posts are being built in the Muminobod district – one of them is being constructed at an initiative of imam-khatib of the Muminobod main mosque, it is being built due to donations made by parishioners of the mosque, and the other one is being built in the Boghai Habib village.”
