DUSHANBE, September 30, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Indian embassy in Dushanbe and the Ziyodullo Shahidi International Foundation for Culture are jointly organizing a Peace Concert on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and also mark the 1st anniversary of the International Day of Non Violence, according to the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe.

The event will be held in the Indian Cultural Center, Embassy of India.  Dr. Munira Shahidi would briefly speak on the relevance of the message of Gandhi in the contemporary world and the need for carrying forward the values of peace and non violence followed by a concert by Indian and Tajik artists.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (October 2, 1869 – January 30, 1948) was a major political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement.  He was the pioneer of Satyagraha – resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, firmly founded upon total non-violence – which led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.  Gandhi was a practitioner of non-violence and truth, ad advocated that others do the same.
