DUSHANBE, October 2, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The 9th interstate scientific-practical conference launched in Russia’s Volgograd region is considering issues related to use of modern technologies for implementation of the program for combating infectious diseases within the CIS area.  The conference was launched on September 30 and will conclude tomorrow.  

According to Fotima Yoqubova, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health (MoH), the deputy director of the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiologic Supervision within a MoH, Isokhon Grezov, has represented Tajikistan at the conference.  

The conference participants are considering issues of working out and practically using modern methods and means of lab diagnostics, preventing and treating infectious diseases as well as problems of efficient interstate interaction between the CIS states in preventing epidemics of infectious diseases.

“The problem of spread of infectious diseases is gaining currency under conditions of an active development of international trade, enough openness of borders, increase in migration processes, appearance of new forms of viruses and infections, as well as threat of biological terrorism,” the spokeswoman said.  

The conference is expected to result in adoption of resolution containing recommendations for health ministries of the CIS member nations.  

The conference participants include representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and MoHs of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
