KHUJAND, October 8, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Industrial enterprises located in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province have not yet experienced electricity shortages and currently work in three shifts, the deputy Khujand mayor, Najmiddin Atoyev, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, some of them are joint ventures working in the light industry sector.  

“46 industrial enterprises now operate in Khujand and electricity supplies are still enough for them to work in three shifts,” said Atoyev, “Electricity supplies to small enterprises have also not yet been limited.” 

            He noted that compared to January-September 2007 the Khujand industrial enterprises had increased the production volume by 5.5 percent. 

Over the first nine months of this year, the Khujand industrial enterprises have produced a total of 146.8 million worth of industrial goods.  However, seven enterprises have failed to reached last year’s level because of natural-gas and electricity shortages, the deputy mayor said.
