QURGHON TEPPA, October 13, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The law enforcement authorities in the southern Khatlon province are concerned about a large number of crimes committed by women.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Murtazo Rahmonov, the head of the department to oversee local police and counternarcotics agency within the Khatlon prosecutor’s office, said that 118 crimes committed by women had been registered in the province since the beginning of this year.  “94 cases have already moved to courts and the remaining 24 cases are still under investigation,” the prosecutor said.

According to him, the female crime shows an upward tendency in Khatlon.  “In the first quarter of the year, 31 crimes committed by women have been registered in Khatlon, in the second quarter – 38 and in the third quarter – 48,” Rahmonov said, noting that women have been convicted mainly of fraud.
