DUSHANBE, October 23, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan has supplied 1.012 billion kWh of electricity to neighboring countries over the first nine months of this year, Energy and Industries Minister Gul Sherali remake data press conference in Dushanbe on October 22.

Some 30 million kWh of electrical power have been supplied to Afghanistan, little more than 19 million kWh to Kazakhstan, some 20 million kWh to Kyrgyzstan and some 902 million kWh to Uzbekistan, the minister said.

Over the report period, Tajikistan has imported 2.127 billion kWh of electricity, with 505,4 million kWh of electricity supplied from Uzbekistan, 88.038 million kWh from Kyrgyzstan, and 801.073 million kWh from Turkmenistan.

Over the same nine-month period, Tajik power plants have generated 11.446 billion kWh of electricity.  “Of this amount, 11.255 billion kWh of electricity have been generated by the hydroelectric power plants and some 191 million kWh have been generated by the Dushanbe heat and power station, which is 13.5% and 13.75 fewer respectively than in January-September 2007,” Gul said.

The ministry attributed to decrease in electricity generation to low water levels at reservoirs powering the country’s hydropower plants.
