DUSHANBE, November 5, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Tajik national TV news channel, Jahonnamo, has gone on the air today.    

The news channel is expected to broadcast round-the-clock and at first, it will cover some 60 percent of the country’s territory.

According to senior representatives of the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, more than US$320,000 worth of equipment has been purchased for the TV news channel.  

By government’s resolution Abdumajid Usmonov, formerly deputy director of the TV channel Safina, has been appointed to head Jahonnamo.    

 Four national TV channels now function in Tajikistan: Shabakai Yakum (TV Channel One); TV Channel Safina; Children’s TV Channel Bahoriston; and TV News Channel Jahonnamo.
